Labor Day Weekend

It got a little busier this weekend with the holiday, the campground was almost full. Hunting season is about to begin so there is quite a mix of people camping. The weather changed and we finally got some rain after 3 months of dry weather. 2 big herds of Buffalo moved onto the Elk Refuge and can be seen from the Scenic Overlook across from the campground.

It's Just Starting to Cool Off

It's already late august and for the last week the weather has been cooler. The campground has been very quiet with only 2-3 campers per night.

Curtis Canyon is popular with Hang gliders

The Campground is located across from the Lookout Point that is used by Jackson Hoel hang gliders. You can see them soaring above the campground or as you drive up the switchbacks to the campground. Here is a link I found that shows quite a bit of the surrounding area from a birds eye view: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XnvhmPg2Vw

August Already

I've been to busy hiking to take the time to get to the library and post some of the photos I took of the campground and surrounding areas, but I promise to get that done soon!

The weather has been very warm during the day and comfortable at night and the campsite has never been completely full yet. The road is pretty washboarded up and the drive in is a bit rough.

There has been no critters in any of the campgrounds but everyone worries since the Forest service has "Bear boxes" in the campsites and strict rules for putting up food and other bear attractants. That is all to prevent the bears from getting use to human food since if they become acclimated and a nuisance, the F.S. will have to put the bear down as a "problem bear"
